| Planning
and Self-Evaluation
Applying focused action on the things that really make the difference
to learners is the most effective way to realise continuous school
improvement. All those with a stake in the school including Ofsted,
expect the school's managers to establish and maintain this focus
and that is why planning, action and achievement play such an important
part in strategies for inspection and the New Relationship with
Schools.
Clear objectives (statements of the outcomes you
need) and, sequential steps and milestones for their achievement
are the product of effective self-evaluation. Managers are expected
to be proactive in monitoring and controlling the routes to improvement.
What do we need to do?
Managers must ensure that improvement objectives are in place across
the school. They also need to ensure that all those with accountability
for achievement are helped to produce meaningful, resourced plans.
Managers need to:
| • |
Analyse
self-evaluation and stakeholder perceptions to extract priority
areas for improvement |
| • |
Set measurable objectives
for each area |
| • |
Ensure that people
take ownership of their objectives |
| • |
Help develop and
resource plans |
| • |
Keep plans on course
for achievement |
